The Burra Community School Governing Council has determined the following school uniform for our school. This policy is in line with DfE Administrative Guidelines 10 April 1997. Uniforms are available from the Front Office from 8.30 – 9.30 am each day.
Expectations of all students
School jumper
- Navy blue windcheater/polo top with gold embroidered school emblem.
- No explicit advertising or monograms allowed.
School shirt/skivvies
- White or navy polo shirt with embroidered school emblem.
- No explicit advertising or monograms allowed.
- Skivvies – preferably in school colours of navy blue, white or gold only.
- House/vice house captains and SRC coloured shirts.
School pants/shorts
- Navy blue or school grey pants or shorts that are non-denim.
- No explicit advertising or monograms allowed.
- Appropriate length shorts must be worn.
School dress
- Chequered blue summer dress.
Jackets
- Preferable colour is navy blue.
- Must be removed inside all school buildings.
- No explicit advertising or monograms allowed.
Preferred footwear
- Navy, black or brown enclosed shoes/boots/sandals.
- Footwear to have flat or slightly raised sole only.
Make up and jewellery
- Make up to be tastefully applied and kept to a minimum.
- We strongly discourage the wearing of articles of jewellery, which could cause an accident whether in the yard, in workshops, or in classrooms in general. If ears are pierced, studs are encouraged.
- All jewellery to be worn tastefully and kept to a minimum.
- No nose ring, eyebrow ring, other facial or body piercing to be worn.
- Clear spacers will be tolerated.
Other clothing accessories (including scarves, beanies, gloves)
- May only be worn during colder weather.
- Preferably in the school colours of navy blue, white or gold only.
- Must show no explicit advertising or monograms.
Physical education clothing
- Students in Years 6-12 are required to have an appropriate change of clothing for PE lessons.
- Appropriate uniform for the climatic conditions should be worn for these lessons.
Hair colouring
- Only “natural” hair colours will be tolerated.
- Students will be removed from the yard at recess and lunchtimes until the colour has been modified.
Hats
- In Terms 1 and 4 students are to wear a broad brimmed hat when outside, either for lessons or for recess and lunch breaks.
- Students without an appropriate hat must stay in a shaded area.
- Appropriate hats are for sale at school.
